We’ve had a change of name! The PDWRA has grown a lot over the last 53 years and to help us move forward in the best possible way, we’ve taken the decision to move the charity to ‘Incorporated’ status. This move will help us to remain compliant with the ever-changing charity rules and regulations, and also help us to continue our work of rescuing pugs in need in the most effective way. To mark the change, we have a new and easier to remember name – Pug Welfare & Rescue (PWR).
With a shared history of over 50+ years, we continue to be supported by an amazing and dedicated group of volunteers, who all share the same aim – to help pugs in need wherever they may be across England and Wales, to ensure that they get the best help and care, go on to find their perfect forever homes and live the lives they all deserve.
Throughout the website you’ll find all of the information you need to get involved with the Charity, apply to adopt a pug, surrender a pug to us or help us out with much-needed donations, however large or small.
PWR is ALWAYS looking for more of the right people, with suitable home environments, to adopt the pugs in need coming into our care.
We receive consistently high numbers of surrendered pugs, all with individual needs. Some of those come with special-needs and some are bonded-pairs. They all rely on your generosity to give them the future they deserve!
Please see our Adoption section to find out more about the requirements to be considered for adopting, and to apply directly online.
PWR is completely run on public donations and we wouldn’t be able to help the hundreds of pugs that are surrendered into our care each year without the help of our wonderful and generous supporters. Thank you!
Our vet bills alone run into hundreds of thousands of pounds annually and this is constantly increasing with the onslaught of inflation.
There are many ways to donate, either by one-off payments, monthly donations or by fundraising for our cause, all help is greatly appreciated!
We would like to reassure anyone needing to surrender a pug that we are available, every day of the week, to help you do the best for them.
Your local Volunteer Area Rehoming Coordinator, who you will find in our Surrendering section, will support and advise you throughout the process of surrendering your pug/s to us, in confidence, compassionately and without judgement.
Your pug’s welfare is paramount to us. Please find contact details for our Area advisors here and please feel free to get in touch.
PWR rescues and rehomes hundreds of pugs in need each year. Pugs often come into our care with a variety of health issues and our vet bills run into hundreds of thousands of pounds annually. We’re run entirely on public support, so all help is greatly appreciated. We couldn’t help the many pugs in need that we do without the generosity of our wonderful supporters, and we thank each and every one of you!

This is Quinn, who was rescued in 2022 in a very sorry state. He had almost no fur, skin conditions and was seriously malnourished and underweight. For quite some time we all wondered if he would make it, but under the loving care of his adopter Kellie, Quinn has made a remarkable transformation. We exist to help all pugs in need, young and old, and with your help we can truly make a difference!
Could you help us to save more pugs like Quinn?
