Our Volunteer Area Coordinators (VACs) are at the heart of everything the charity does. They are the ones who take the calls from people looking to surrender their pugs, and will compassionately guide them through the often painful surrender process. Once surrendered, the VAC will find a suitable short-term home while the pug is assessed and the most compatible adopter is identified.
England and Wales are split up into smaller areas and each VAC will oversee a specific one, however, the VACs work closely as a team and will often help out with other areas too. Much of the work is done remotely using phones and computers, so although preferable, it’s not always the case that a VAC will be responsible for the area where they live.
Responsibilities of the VAC role include:
Being available to receive or return calls as a matter of urgency, to advise and reassure people surrendering their pugs
Managing adoption applications for their region and providing ongoing support to adopters
The keeping of thorough and detailed electronic records, maintaining and updating them regularly
Organising the demands of the role with commitment, responsibility and flexibility
Working with all other resources within PWR and ensuring compliance with PWR guidelines and legal requirements
Helping to promote the work and achievements of PWR
If you feel that you have the skills and the time to commit to taking on a VAC role, or helping to support our VACs, then please click the button below to apply. Once received, a member of our team will be in touch to discuss your application in more detail. If taken on, full training to enable you to perform your role will be given by our VAC team. There’s no doubt that the VAC role is an extremely rewarding one, it can be quite demanding at times though, so please consider this fully before applying.
Please note that all successful volunteer applicants will be required to complete the PWR ‘Code of Conduct’ agreement, provide references and supply us with an up to date Disclosure & Barring Check.
