Whenever somebody applies to adopt a PWR Pug, we’ll need to do a Home Check to ensure that they will be suitable adopters and have the right facilities in place to properly care for a pug. This is where our Home Checking team comes in. Historically, this would involve somebody visiting the potential adopter in their home. Checks can still sometimes be done in person, however, this is now more commonly done over a video call, which means that location isn’t necessarily a barrier to applying to be a Home Checker.
During a home check, it’s important to gather as much information as possible about the applicant, their home, lifestyle, whether or not there is access to a garden or a park, are there stairs in the property, whether or not a pug would be left alone for periods of time and any other resident pets. All of these factors will have a bearing on suitability and will need to be documented.
The applicant’s details will be provided to you, along with a copy of our home check form with set questions to guide you on your visit. This will need to be completed in full and returned to your Area Coordinator. After the Home Check, the decision on whether or not an applicant is considered to be suitable will always be made by the Area Coordinator.
If you feel that you have the skills and the time to commit to taking on a Home Checking role, then please click the button below to apply. Once received, a member of our team will be in touch to discuss your application in more detail. If taken on, full training to enable you to perform your role will be given by our VAC team. Home Checking is a very important part of the adoption process and it can be very rewarding when that ends with a surrendered pug finding their perfect new forever home.
Please note that all successful volunteer applicants will be required to complete the PWR ‘Code of Conduct’ agreement, provide references and supply us with an up to date Disclosure & Barring Check.
