Leaving a Legacy to Pug Welfare & Rescue is something that can be of significant benefit to to the charity, helping us to continue our work of helping pugs in need throughout England and Wales. The Pug is a breed that has a wonderful and unique way of working themselves into our hearts, and it can be very comforting to know that you’ll be able to continue to help those that are in peril.
Our vet bills alone run into hundreds of thousands of pounds a year, so legacy donations coming into the charity can go a long way towards helping us to continue our work of rescuing the many pugs in need throughout England and Wales.
It’s worth bearing in mind that any funds left to a registered charity are free of inheritance tax. Also, if you leave just ten percent of your net estate to charity, then the inheritance tax rate on the remainder of your estate is reduced from 40% to 36%. Your solicitor will be able to advise on the wording in your will, but often it will be along the lines of:
‘I give the sum of £x to PUG WELFARE AND RESCUE (Registered Charity Number 276067) of: Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA, United Kingdom, and I declare that the receipt of the person professing to be the treasurer or other properly appointed official of the charity shall be a valid discharge to my trustees.’
If you’re leaving significant amounts to charity, it may well be advisable check with your solicitor to ensure you take advantage of the lower tax rate. In some circumstances, you can give more to charity AND more to your other beneficiaries by this means, with the only loser being tax man!
