Volunteer Area Coordinators

Our Volunteer Area Coordinators (VACs) are at the heart of everything the charity does. They are the ones who take the calls from people looking to surrender their pugs, and will compassionately guide them through the often painful surrender process. Once surrendered, the VAC will find a suitable short-term home while the pug is assessed and the most compatible adopter is identified.

England and Wales are split up into smaller areas and each VAC will oversee a specific one, however, the VACs work closely as a team and will often help out with other areas too. Much of the work is done remotely using phones and computers, so although preferable,  it’s not always the case that a VAC will be responsible for the area where they live.

Responsibilities of the VAC role include:

Being available to receive or return calls as a matter of urgency, to advise and reassure people surrendering their pugs

Managing adoption applications for their region and providing ongoing support to adopters

The keeping of thorough and detailed electronic records, maintaining and updating them regularly

Organising the demands of the role with commitment, responsibility and flexibility

Working with all other resources within PWR and ensuring compliance with PWR guidelines and legal requirements

Helping to promote the work and achievements of PWR
